How to vote by mail

On July 27, 2020, Texas Governor Greg Abbott issued an emergency proclamation extending the early voting period for the November 3, 2020 General/Joint Election by an extra week and allowing a voter to deliver a marked ballot in person prior to and on Election Day. 

Monday, October 5, 2020 is the deadline for an individual to register to vote or update their voter registration information such as name or address. For those wishing to apply for a ballot by mail in person, the deadline is Monday, October 23, 2020.

How to Apply for Ballot by Mail An individual wanting to apply for ballot by mail can visit the dallascountyvotes.org  website and download the Application for Ballot by Mail that’s available in both English and Spanish.

The application period is open now and runs through Friday, October 23, 2020; however, for those wishing to apply for a ballot by mail in person, the deadline is Monday, October 12, 2020.

Applications can be hand-delivered, mailed, e-mailed or faxed back to the Dallas County Elections Department (DCED). Regular business hours are 8:00 am-4:30 pm Monday-Friday. One important note, if an individual chooses to fax or email their application, they must still mail the hard copy to DCED within four (4) business days. <Application for Ballot by Mail>

Requirements to Apply for Ballot by Mail A voter may apply for a ballot by mail if the individual falls into one of the categories listed below:
  • 65 years of age or older
  • Disability
  • Expected absence from the county
  • Confined in jail, but eligible to vote. 

In Person Early Voting Extended Hours Schedule The early voting polling locations are published.  The schedule is:

  • October13 –16 Tuesday-Friday (7am to 7pm)
  • October 17 Saturday (7am to 7pm)
  • October 18 Sunday (1pm to 6pm)
  • October19–23 Monday-Friday (7am to 7pm)
  • October24 Saturday (7am to 7pm)
  • October 25Sunday (1pm to 6pm)
  • October 26-30 Monday-Friday (7am to 7pm)
  • November 2-3Monday-Tuesday (7am to 7pm)
