Coyote Ugly?? Not in Our Backyard!

🐾 Keep your loved ones safe. 🌸

Spring has sprung—and so have the coyotes! As nature wakes up, our furry (and sometimes feisty) wild neighbors become more active, especially as they care for their new pups. While they might look like scruffy dogs from a distance, these clever canines are not here for belly rubs or playdates.

Here are a few tips to stay one step ahead of the coyotes:

🦴 No backyard buffets – Coyotes love easy snacks. Secure garbage, remove food bowls, and clean up BBQ leftovers. Let’s not turn our yards into “Coyote CafΓ©.”

πŸ• Leash ‘em up – Keep household animals leashed and never leave them outside alone, especially at dawn or dusk. Stay alert on any walks!

! Make some noise – Hyperwhistles that can be attached to a key chain, stroller or leash and pocket air horns are helpful in keeping these animals moving along.

πŸ—£️ Be loud, not polite – If you see a coyote, channel your inner rock star: yell, wave, clap, stomp, or toss a (non-edible) item in its direction. No need to be neighborly—they’ll get the message.

A word to the wild-wise:

Coyotes may be part of our natural landscape; they’re just not part of the neighborhood watch. By staying alert and taking simple steps, we can keep spring sweet—not scary—for our animals and our families.

And always remember – SAFETY FIRST. The methods described below are tried and true deterrents in most instances. However, coyote behavior can be unpredictable if they appear to be injured, sick or socialized to humans.
